Nagasawa founded in 1882 in Kobe, is a specialty store, offering stationery and office supplies. In an increasingly digitalized and e-commerce-oriented world, among their recent endeavors, the company provides new products and services to fittingly answer the customers’ needs of this day and age. It also promotes “handwriting” to maintain and recreate “the warmth of analogue” compared to “the usefulness of digital.”

“ Creating a New Culture of Writing (Drawing)―Marketing Kobe INK”

The stationery or ink-related products industries are expected to suffer great losses because of shrinking markets and declining of handwriting culture. In this setting, participants are required to make a marketing plan for the “Kobe INK,” consider the times, economics, and the foreseeable changes of the stationery markets. Presentations are to be delivered in English, and are evaluated by their contents, and their technical qualities (-presentation and foreign language skills-). Participating teams are encouraged to create a new culture of writing (drawing) with dynamic, new and fresh ideas.

What is Kobe INK?

Kobe INK, produced and merchandised by Nagasawa since 2007, is a line of fountain pen inks with 72 colors as of July 2019. The concept of the products is based on a unique blend of Kobe’s scenery and colors. With their beauty, variety and unique product naming with a story to tell, the series have attracted not only an essential customer base of fountain pen enthusiasts and collectors, but also a new customer base, from so called “bungujoshi,” young, female stationery enthusiasts to those who buy ink products for new uses such as coloring illustrations. In 2018, Nagasawa was given honorable mention award in the 10th Japan Marketing Awards, Japan Marketing Association praising “the creation of new values in a stagnant market.

The event is open to the public. Admission is free.

・Undergraduate students studying in universities, or 4th or 5th grade students in technical colleges in Japan
・3-4 members who belong to same university or technical college (everyone needs to speak at least once)
・International students are also welcome.
